Artist Statement
My artwork is not meant to make a statement, but rather to evoke a feeling or an emotion from the viewer. It is the beauty of nature, and its relationship with mankind that inspires me.

Cynthia A. Dawley was born in New Jersey in 1964. Growing up surrounded by the works of her father, world-renowned artist Joseph Dawley, it would seem that becoming an artist would be inevitable.

Working solely in oils in the impressionistic style, Cynthia has exhibited her works through galleries nationally, and is included in numerous private collections. Her works have been used on the corporate level by such companies as Cartier jewelers, Colavita, and the HBO series The Sopranos.  Ms. Dawley has appeared in NJ Monthly magazine multiple times, most recently in a feature article in the June 2005 issue.

Cynthia’s use of color and light reflect the artist’s ability to capture a feeling and transfer it to canvas. Her paintings show a large diversity in subject matter, from the cityscapes of NYC, to the beaches of Monterey, and even the international flavors of such places as Sweden and Italy. From the seascapes of coastal New England, to the commonplace beauty of the small towns of the Northeast, Cynthia maintains a strong affinity for the East Coast. Recently she has had numerous commissions by those wanting their own properties captured in oil.

Currently Cynthia is working on several philanthropic projects, on both the local and national levels. She is a member of The American Academy of Women Artists, National Women’s Caucus for Art, and The American Society of Classical Realism. She currently resides in her life-long hometown of Cranford, New Jersey with her husband and two young children.
